Exhibit 34 summarizes the information covered up to this point on the chakras of the etheric-double and astral bodies.

Between the etheric-double and the dense physical body, there are certain well-defined points of connection that function as true knots, tying these two bodies together. The person who knows their location and the correct way to act upon them will be able to untie them with relative ease, producing interesting phenomena, such as the para-psychic states studied in lethargy.

Certain physical accidents, such as disasters and falls and even certain diseases, may also produce the untying of these knots, the victim showing the most varied states of anesthesia and paralysis, local or generalized. Violent emotional shocks may also produce similar effects because of the repercussion of the astral vibrations on the etheric-double body—even when those effects do not cause the tearing of the buddhic net that puts the patient in direct contact with the astral reality.

These disconnections are ephemeral and the knot is retied as soon as the cause ceases. This recovery does not take place, however, when the cause of the untying is permanent, such as the anxious states of neurasthenia, psychasthenia, or continuous mental efforts. The vibrations of the nobler vehicles act intensely upon those that have lower vibrational frequency.

It is convenient to point out here that the mind does not get tired at all from elaborating on thoughts or vrittis. On the contrary, its life consists of this, and thoughts are its nutrients. What tires the mind is keeping or fixing thoughts on only one thing, fact, or object, such as the “fixed thought” of the popular language. Mental energy is cosmic. Essentially, it is not produced by man but it is used by him to elaborate on thoughts and perform mental formulations. The mental force is a continuous flow of cosmic energy that passes through the human mental body, producing work and draining itself again into the universal repository. To retain the mental force, lacking the necessary capacity and preparation, requires immeasurable and tiresome efforts, similar to containing a stream without the adequate means. Furthermore, thinking about nothing is effortless since it consists of letting the cosmic current pass through the mental body without performing work. On the contrary, to maintain a fixed idea means to retain the cosmic mental current, with the operator being subject to the tremendous thrust of that powerful force.

It should then be recommended to people subject to depressive states to change their thoughts first, leaving behind thoughts of their present diseases and weaknesses. The resting of the mind is simply obtained by variation of thought . Therefore, it is recommended that men of intense mental activity try a variation in the theme of their usual thoughts, interesting the mind in other activities, such as games, sports, reading, or even manual work.

Anyway, conscious breathing helps mental recuperation, because the cosmic mental current passes freely while the mind is entertained in leading the breathing practices, washing and invigorating the mental body.

There is still an interesting chakra called Lalna, situated between Ajna and Sahasrara, near the headline on the forehead.
